Creating During A Crisis
And why artists are meant for trying times.

It’s been a helluva month.

From 9/11 memorials, to multiple shootings, and crazy news being fast-tracked from to the World’s Stage that screams at you from your pocket, these times are not for the faint of heart. And it can be VERY EASY to get sucked into the noise, the anger, the hate, the one-upping. It’s safe to say at this point humanity doesn’t feel quite like humanity these days.
Upon hearing of Charlie’s death, I was appalled. I grieved seeing a young man gunned down like that. If you haven’t seen the full, raw video, it was horrifying.
Despite my revulsion, I continued consuming. An endless feed of hate and laughter from one side triggered something inside of me that was angry at the senseless bloodshed. And the other side stoked the fire in agreement.
I made a statement out of haste. And looking back, it felt off. It still had some of my own biases attached to it.
My perspective on the whole situation has evolved over the last 7 days. I still 100% know it was wrong, and I still 100% hurt for the families and people affected. But my response was one of frustration, anger… and in these mindsets, mentalities, and moments, we cannot truly think rationally.
I love how David in the Psalms often finds himself in solitude. Silent, meditating on God’s Word. When Jesus said that if your “Eye be full of light, then your whole body will be full of light”, I think I finally understood that phrase this week.
When we’re consuming, and creating from a reactionary standpoint, it’s going to have a filter. Step back, process, pray. And then deliver.
As artists, we’re meant to create in times of crisis. But don’t let the crisis mutate your creations. I believe when we can operate from a place of peace, we can operate at our highest potential.
We’re Re-Imagining ArtHouse and it’s Purpose.
As we’ve had our ‘eyes on the prize’ as a company, as a mission, we’ve been evolving. We see the creations of micro-communities popping up everywhere. But we don’t see purpose. We don’t see values. We don’t see long-term goals. Trajectory.
ArtHouse, now in the application process, is going to first ask, “What is your purpose?”
We believe to truly create impactful art, you have to have a vision and a purpose. “Without vision, the people perish.” (Proverbs 28:19)
We hope you take this time of chaos to sit back, and ask, “What is my purpose?”
Stoked About Our Evolution? Get Some Gear.
Between new website styling (Ivory and Red, currently) and some epic ‘Always Filming’ limited edition hats, we’re having a blast finding the voice and the style of this company. We’ll never stop evolving. And in fact, our site will likely visually change each month. But we’ll be incorporating a system where you can pick to view it how you’d like.

Get Your Materials Together.
The Application process to ArtHouse is just around the corner, and we can’t wait for you to come on in. More importantly, we can’t wait for you to meet fellow purpose-driven artists.
If you’re in LA, you’re pretty lucky for what’s coming. We’re planning an EPIC Launch party to give away exclusive ‘Founder’s Circle’ referral rewards, updates on community events, special screenings, and more, plus some inspiring talks we’ll be announcing soon.
The Launch Party will be Founder’s Circle Members ONLY, so make sure to let your friends know when applications are open.
